Semax has been studied in Russian clinical literature examining applications in ischaemic stroke recovery, optic nerve conditions, and attention-related research. Western preclinical work has focused on BDNF upregulation and neuroprotective mechanisms in animal models. Trial and study data is available in published literature for independent review.
Semax increases BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) and NGF (nerve growth factor) expression. It appears to enhance dopaminergic and serotonergic activity in the prefrontal cortex. Unlike ACTH itself, Semax has minimal adrenal effects, as the melanocortin-stimulating region has been modified.
